We’ve all heard the term, “Get moving! We are burning daylight!”
That can apply to us as well. Service members are taught to take care of their bodies because they need to carry heavy items, walk long distances or travel and take care of themselves. So emphasis is placed on the physical. Did you know that you have an emotional and spiritual side that burns up like daylight as well? We need to honor and acknowledge our emotional and spiritual sides, which help us, feel, process and survive certain events.
Though we don’t like to talk about it. We have feeling associated with the things that we do, the people that we meet and the circumstance that affect us. These feelings can come out in inappropriate ways or they can be stuffed down so deep we feel shut off and cut off from our feelings. The same thing happens to us spiritually but here is where you can get two for one.
Connecting with your higher power, whatever that may be, which is what we will call spirituality can give a place for those feelings to go. Especially if you don’t want to talk to your buddies, your leaders or your family. Emotions have to go somewhere and putting them up to your higher power can give you the relief that you are seeking. It’s not always the answer for everything, but letting go and giving yourself up to the universe from time to time can prevent you from burning your own daylight.
